After years of pandemic and war in Ukraine, leaders had perhaps hoped for a less tumultuous time to be meeting. But the developing situation in the Red Sea has sent oil prices spiking and Israel shows no signs of backing down after 100 days of war with Hamas.

Oxfam is making the most of the moment, using Davos as a hook for its annual report on global inequality. The charity says the first trillionaire could emerge within a decade as the world's five richest men have more than doubled their fortunes to $869 billion in the last three years. The wealth of the poorest 60% has fallen over that time.
