Tiger Woods and Nike are splitting up

Tiger Woods and Nike have ended their partnership after more than 27 years.

The golf legend struck his first deal with Nike when he went pro in 1996. A five-year agreement signed in 2000 was worth an estimated ÂŁ85 million, making it the biggest endorsement contract in sports history at the time. Nike and Woods stuck together through a sex scandal that drove away sponsors such as Gatorade, AT&T, and Accenture.

The split has raised speculation that Nike is looking to exit the golf business. The company stopped selling clubs, bags, and balls in 2016 after years of falling sales, though it still sells golf footwear and clothes.

Nike said it was an honour to partner with “one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen.” Writing on X, Woods said “there will certainly be another chapter.”
