Will investing in theme parks restore Disney’s share price magic?

If the names Elsa and Olaf give you anxiety, I have bad news. Disney is plowing $60 billion into its parks, and has teased a new Frozen-themed land. Good luck keeping that from the children in your life.

Disney is doubling its investment into parks

Look beyond the magic, and things aren’t going brilliantly at Disney. Its streaming business is still losing money, there’s been a string of box office disappointments, and shares are down almost 25% over the past year.

One bright spot is Disney's theme parks, which had a good 2022 as visitors returned after pandemic closures. So the company is doubling down, investing $60 billion in its theme parks, resorts, and cruise lines over the next decade.

Disney says it has more than 1,000 acres of land on its existing sites that it wants to develop, leveraging IP like Frozen, Wakanda, and Coco to build new attractions. Shareholders are unimpressed, though. The stock dipped more than 3% following the announcement.
