Microsoft is not messing around when it comes to AI. Billions invested into exciting companies, new features in its core products, literally tried to hire all of OpenAI. Now itās poached DeepMindās co-founder as its new AI chief. Still never using Bing though.

Microsoft taps DeepMind co-founder as AI chief
Microsoft has hired DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman to lead its newly-formed AI division. The new unit will be called Microsoft AI, and brings together the companyās consumer AI products, including Copilot, Bing, and Edge. Suleyman will report directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
The restructuring is Microsoftās latest move to capitalize on the generative AI boom. It has quickly integrated AI into its suite of products, and invested billions in partnerships with OpenAI and Mistral.
Suleyman co-founded DeepMind, which was acquired by Google in 2014. He currently runs Inflection AI, which he started with LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman and counts Microsoft among its investors.
The British AI pioneer has come under pressure in the past for his overly aggressive management style. Addressing staff complaints at the time, Suleyman said, āI really screwed up. I was very demanding and pretty relentless.ā
