Apple pulls some Apple Watches from shelves

Apple is halting sales of some of its Apple Watch devices over a patent dispute, but they’ll still be available in stores until December 24. As someone who picks that day to do all their Christmas shopping, I feel seen. Merry Christmas, Apple.

Apple to halt sales of some Apple Watches in US

Apple will stop selling some versions of the Apple Watch in the US amid a patent dispute. The tech giant will pull its Series 9 and Ultra 2 models from its online shop on Thursday and from stores after December 24.

The move comes amid a disagreement with medical device maker Masimo. In October, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) found Apple in violation of the company’s pulse oximeter patent, which measures blood-oxygen levels. President Biden has 60 days to review the decision before a ban could go into effect.

Apple said it believes the ITC’s ruling should be reversed, while Masimo said Apple’s decision to include the blood oxygen feature in its devices was a deliberate infringement. It’s not the first time the companies have gone head to head. Last year, Apple filed two lawsuits against Masimo, claiming it used patented Apple Watch features in its W1 medical smartwatch.
