Apple and Google are in talks ($) to bring the search giantās generative AI technology to the iPhone, in a deal that would rock the industry. Bloomberg reports the two companies are actively negotiating an agreement to integrate Google Gemini into the next version of iOS.
For Apple, the deal would mean outsourcing the heavy lifting of generative AI, such as creating images and writing essays based on simple prompts. But it may also signal that Apple isnāt as far along with its AI efforts as some might have hoped. The company recently also held discussions with OpenAI and has considered using its model, according to Bloomberg.
An agreement with Apple could give Googleās AI technology access to billions of potential users. Apple has more than 2 billion active devices that could potentially run Gemini. It would also mean a deepening of the search partnership between the two companies. For years, Google has paid Apple billions to make its search engine the default option in Safari.
