RBC fires its CFO after a probe into her personal relationship

Royal Bank of Canada has fired its CFO ($) Nadine Ahn after an investigation found she was in an undisclosed personal relationship with another employee. RBC said it was “recently made aware of allegations involving Ms Ahn and immediately launched an internal review and engaged outside legal counsel to investigate.”

The bank said both Ahn and the other employee, who wasn’t identified, were fired because the undisclosed relationship violated the code of conduct, adding it “led to preferential treatment of the employee including promotion and compensation increases.” Katherine Gibson, a long-time RBC employee, was named interim CFO while a search is held for a permanent replacement.

Ahn joined RBC in 1999 and worked in a series of roles before being named CFO in 2021. At the time, she was the only female CFO of a major Canadian bank, though Marie Chantal Gingras was since named CFO at National Bank of Canada.
